New Delhi: Kapil Parmar became the first Indian to win a medal in para-judo at the Paris Paralympic 2024 on Thursday, September 5. Kapil defeated Elielton Oliveira 10-0 to win a bronze medal in the men’s J1-60 kg category at the Paris Paralympics 2024.
In the semi-finals, Iran’s S Banitaba Khorram Abadi defeated Kapil by 10-0. Parmar produced a brilliant ippon, the highest possible score in Judo to dominate Brazil’s Oliveira in the bronze medal match.
The J1 class in para judo is for the athletes who suffer from no to very low visual activity. Athletes in this category wear red circles to indicate that they may need guided support before, during and after a match. Parmar’s bronze medal took India’s medal tally to 25 in the Paris Paralympics 2024.
