New Delhi: Flamboyant batter Karun Nair shot to fame right at the start of the England tour as he slammed a fine century for India A in the opening day of the first unofficial Test against England Lions at the St. Lawrence Ground in Canterbury on Friday. Coming out to bat at no. 3, he stayed in the middle for the entire day and only walked back at the close of play, on an unbeaten score of 186 coming off 246 deliveries.

His fiery innings was laced with 24 fours and a solitary six as he put India A on top on Day 1, taking their total to 409/3 in complete 90 overs. Wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel (82* off 104 balls) supported him at the end, as the two left the field with solid individual and team scores. India A, led by Abhimanyu Easwaran, were invited to bat first by the Lions’ skipper James Rew, whose bowlers found very little success on the opening day of the four-day affair.
