Kerala man does the unimaginable, cycles 22000 km to cheer for his favourite athlete at Olympics

New Delhi: From Kozhikode to Paris, cycling 22000 kilometres in over 2 years across 30 countries is not a joke. It requires some courage, a lot of passion and above all resilience and relentlessness to do something of such sort. A man from Kerala, Fayis Asraf Ali, did the unimaginable to meet his favourite athlete at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024.

Fayis, who began his solo expedition on August 15, 2022, cycled across 30 countries to reach Paris to cheer for his favourite athlete at the biggest sporting extravaganza in the world. Upon his arrival in the city of love on Monday, Favis, was accorded a warm welcome at the India house in the city.

For which athlete did Favis travel so much

For the energetic man from Kerala, star Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra has always been a hero and it was for him, Favis decided to do what he ended up doing. The 37-year-old, who is an engineer by qualifications, gave up his promising career in the Middle East back in 2015 to take care of his ailing father.

Hi father passed away in 2018 and during this hard period, Favis himself developed some health problems and decided to take up an active life in order to get rid of it. He understood the importance of staying fit and got the thought of starting to ride.

Neeraj inspired him to visit Paris

On August 15, 2022, Ali set off with a mission to cycle from India to London to spread peace and unity. After crossing 17 countries, he stopped in Budapest last year in August when he got to know that Tokyo Olympics medallist Neeraj Chopra was staying across the street for the World Championships. After a lot of struggle, he was finally able to meet the javelin thrower

As quoted by news agency PTI, Neeraj told him that since he has cycled all the way from India to London, why doesn’t he come to Paris for the Olympics next year. At that moment, he thought that it would a wonderful thing to meet him again and that’s when he decided to alter his plan and finally succeeded in reaching Paris on time.
