New Delhi: India women Kho Kho team mauled South Korea in their opening fixture of the World Cup at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium here. The Priyanka Ingle-led team thrashed their Asian opponent by a heavy margin of 175-18 to begin their campaign on a brighter note.
The defensive game was on high with Chaithra B, Meeru, and Priyanka made a fabulous start with successive dream runs by the first two batches, each earning a key point. South Korea could only manage to bag 10 points from their chase in the first turn.
The Indians pounced in the second turn with Nasreen Shaikh, Reshma Rathod supporting skipper Priyanka to tag the Koreans one after other. The four batches of South Korea were dismissed in 108 seconds, India taking 24 points to gain the lead. India got a total of 16 batches out in the second turn to take a commanding lead of 94-10.
India added three more points with their strategic dodging continuously yielding them dream runs. The Koreans could only plunder eight points in the turn 3. The hosts continued the intensive attack in the final turn, picking up 78 more points with a total of 13 Korea batches getting out.
India men make it back-to-back wins
A day after a grueling win against Nepal, the Indian men’s Kho Kho team eased past Brazil with a comprehensive score line of 64-34. India earned two dream run points while Brazil managed to tag eight Indian defenders to claim a 16-2 lead in the first turn.
Rokeson Singh, Pabani Sabar, and Aditya Ganpule were the main players to lead the charge for the Men in Blue to attack. India took a 36-16 lead at the end of the second turn. Brazil lacked the strategic moves particularly with the sky dives and lacked the pace as well. The South American team closed in the third turn at 34-38, all but confirm that India would finish as victorious as they added 26 points in the last turn.
