New Delhi: Ace Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth has stormed into the final of the Malaysia Masters Super 500 badminton tournament with a straight-game win over Japan’s Yushi Tanaka in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday. This will be his first men’s singles final of a BWF event in six years, a result of a superlative clash which showed glimpses of his vintage form, inclusive of sharp net play and attacking flair.
The 2023 World Championships silver medallist outwitted world no. 23 Tanaka by 21-18, 24-22 in what was a thrilling semifinal contest. He is now set to make his first final appearance on the BWF World Tour since he finished as runner-up at the 2019 India Open. Back in 2017, he had won four titles. The 32-year-old, a former world no. 1, Srikanth, had slumped to world no. 65 after enduring a lean patch over the past few seasons owing to form and fitness.
