New Delhi: The Men in Blue will take on England in the five-match Test series, starting June 20. This will be India’s first Test series after the retirement of senior players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin.

The Test series against England will mark India’s first assignment in the 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle. Team India will play the opening Test in Leeds from June 20, the second match at Edgbaston from July 2, the third Test at Lord’s from July 10, the fourth at Old Trafford in Manchester from July 23, and the final Test at The Oval from July 31. The Men in Blue are currently playing an intra-squad warm-up match against India A ahead of the first Test.

Gill takes over as the new Test captain after Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the longest format of the game and will become India’s 37th Test captain. Speaking to Dinesh Karthik in an exclusive interview with Sky Sports, Gill said that apart from all the silverware and all the trophies, he really would like to build a culture where everyone is very secure and happy.

“And I know it’s a very, it can be a very difficult environment, especially with all the competition and all the number of matches that we play, different squads coming in. But if I’m able to do that, I think that would be my goal,” Gill said on Sky Sports.

Gill also said that while it’s a big responsibility to captain the Test team, Gambhir and Agarkar have given him freedom to express himself. The 25-year-old said that Gambhir and Agarkar told him, ‘there are no expectations’.

He further added that they are not expecting him to do something he’s not capable of. Gill also said that he doesn’t think there are any expectations or pressure from them, but he has some expectations from himself as a leader and a player.
