Chennai: Suburban electric trains will stop at Kilambakkam from March next year. Land acquisition for the construction of a railway station adjacent to the new bus stand at Kilambakkam is in full swing, Southern Railway General Manager RN Singh said.

The construction of the Kilambakkam railway station will start once the Tamil Nadu government completes the land acquisition work. The news that the Kilambakkam railway station will be operational by next March will be exciting news for the commuters as they face hardships that although Klambakkam bus station is huge, there are not enough public transport facilities to reach there from many parts of Chennai.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin inaugurated the state-of-the-art Kalaignar Centenary Bus Terminal constructed at Rs 400 crore at Kilambakkama a few months ago near Vandalur for the convenience of passengers traveling from Chennai, the capital of Tamil Nadu to the southern districts. After this gradually all the buses are now being operated from Kilambakkam Bus Station.
Commuters faced hardships in reaching Kilambakkam’s new bus stand
Later, it was announced that a new railway station would be constructed near Vandalur for the convenience of reaching the bus station. Passengers said that although Kilambakkam bus station is huge, there are not enough public transport facilities to reach there from many parts of Chennai. The commuters have been waiting for the completion of the suburban railway station at Kilambakkam as they will be able to go to Kilambakkam without any difficulty once the suburban railway station is completed and operational.
Meanwhile, critics say Indian railways messed up again with poor planning at the upcoming station at Kilambakkam opposite the new bus terminus. The railway station which is being constructed can accommodate only suburban trains as all three platforms will only be 300 meters long while express trains and trains like Vande Bharat cannot stop there as they require a 380 mts long platform.
The commuters have been waiting for the completion of the suburban railway station at Kilambakkam as they will be able to go to Kilambakkam without any difficulty once the suburban railway station is completed and operational.
