New Delhi: KL Rahul continued his sensational form in the red-ball cricket and smashed a century against England Lions in the second unofficial Test at the County Ground, Northampton on June 6. Rahul has been in brilliant form in the red-ball cricket and scored 276 runs in five Test matches against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

He missed the first red-ball game against England Lions, but asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to be part of the second unofficial Test and took a flight to the UK and played a great innings. Rahul opened the innings with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored 17 runs off 26 balls. Abhimanyu Easwaran also failed to contribute with the bat and only managed to score just 11 runs and was dismissed by Chris Woakes.

After losing two wickets in quick succession, Karun Nair and Rahul forged an 86-run partnership for the third wicket. Nair scored 40 runs off 71 balls and was removed by Chris Woakes, while Rahul scored his century in 151 balls with the help of 13 boundaries and one maximum. Dhurv Jurel also smashed his half-century in 66 balls.

The ongoing unofficial Test match will be followed by India’s intra-squad match, where India A players will face the senior team ahead of the first Test, which is scheduled to begin on June 20 in Leeds. For Jaiswal and Rahul, the five-match Test series poses a real challenge as the team management will be expecting both batters to score a lot of runs in the absence of senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

India vs England series to be renamed as Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy

The upcoming five-match Test series between both nations will now be played as the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy. Previously, the Test series between India and England in the UK had been played for the Pataudi Trophy, named after the Pataudi family. As per the BBC report, the new trophy will be unveiled in the build-up to the opening Test. This move comes after the Test series between England and New Zealand was named as the Crowe-Thorpe Trophy in November 2024.
