New Delhi: Team India openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed fighting half-centuries in the second innings to help India stage a brilliant comeback in the ongoing 1st Test against Australia in Perth. Rahul and Jaiswal shared an unbeaten opening stand of 172 runs to help India take a commanding lead of 218 runs in their second innings on Day 2 of the Test match on Saturday.

After the Indian pacers wreaked havoc to bowl out Australia cheaply for 104 runs in their first innings, Indian openers Rahul and Jaiswal dominated the proceedings against the hosts’ bowling attack in Perth. The duo showcased brilliant composure to play out the opening spell and continued to bat with tenacity and precision as they put India on top of the game at stumps.

Rahul scored an unbeaten 62 while Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 90 en route to their 172-run opening stand at stumps on Day 2. The Indian openers will be eyeing history on Day 3 of the Perth Test as they are now in touching distance of breaking the record for the highest partnership by an opening pair in Tests in Australia.

Rahul and Jaiswal need another 20 runs in their opening stand during India’s second innings on Day 3 to surpass Sunil Gavaskar and Kris Srikkanth, who shared a 191-run opening stand in the Sydney Test against Australia in 1986. Thanks to their unbeaten 172-run stand, Rahul and Jaiswal now have the second-highest opening stand by an Indian pair in Australia.

Rahul and Jasiwal played sublime knocks to help India amass a huge 218-run lead without a loss of a wicket in their second innings on Day 2 and take complete control of the Perth Test. Jaiswal and Rahul will aim to continue their fine form and notch up their respective centuries on Day 3. India will aim to amass a huge lead before inviting the hosts to bat in their second innings.
