New Delhi: The coronavirus pandemic is here to stay, a statement of many experts now seems relevant as new variants and sub-variants of the infection are continuously being reported all over the world. Most recently, the FLiRT variant of the infection started to wreak havoc in parts of the world, and now, KP.3 has been detected and US President Joe Biden has tested postivie also tested positive for the infection while travelling in Las Vegas on Wednesday. The White House reported that Biden has been experiencing mild symptoms from the infection.
The KP.3 variant has been spreading in the US at a fast pace and the daily average of Covid cases has risen to 307. Current data from the Center For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that 36.9% of Covid cases between June 23 to July 6 were of KP.3.
What is KP.3 variant of Covid?
The KP.3 subvariant of Covid is said to be similar to JN.1 variant and it also has a few similarities with KP.1, KP.2 and FLiRT variants. The CDC is yet to share information on the characteristics of the new variant. The symptoms of this infection are similar to the JN.1 subvariant, such as:

The World Health Organisation recommends caution for all amid the current outbreak. Vaccinations are advised and also to wear a mask and get regular tests.
