Kylian Mbappe red card vs Alaves: Will he miss Copa del Rey final against Barcelona?

New Delhi: Kylian Mbappe received a red card for a reckless tackle in the clash against Deportivo Alavés on Sunday. Real Madrid managed to grab a crucial 1-0 win despite being down to 10 men in a match that saw both sides receive a red card. Mbappe was the first to be sent off in the clash after a studs-up tackle on Antonio Blanco’s shin, with the ball nowhere near the Frenchman.

The Madrid bench was already without its suspended manager, Carlo Ancelotti, as the Italian received his fifth yellow card in the defeat to Valencia last weekend. He was watching the match from the stands while his son and assistant coach, Davide Ancelotti, managed the team for the fixture.

After the match, Mbappe was seen seeking out Blanco to apologize for the incident, which the Alaves players seemed to accept. Ancelotti also said, “Kylian is certainly not a violent guy; he is someone who has apologized and is aware of the mistake he has made.”

How many matches ban could he face?

However, it is now being reported that he will likely receive just a one-match suspension, as referee Cesar Soto Grado noted that Mbappe was challenging for the ball.

Had the incident been viewed as a serious offense, Mbappe’s ban could have caused him to miss Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey final against Barcelona on April 26. According to the Spanish federation’s regulations, a suspension received in La Liga applies to all domestic competitions.
