New Delhi: Rohit Sharma and Co. will square off against South Africa in the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 at Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 29, Saturday. Both teams have played great cricket and are still unbeaten in the ongoing tournament.
India defeated Ireland, Pakistan and the USA in the group stage while their last group stage match was abandoned due to the rain and wet outfield. Rohit Sharma and Co. beat Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia in the Super 8. The Men in Blue defeated England by 68 runs and qualified for their third consecutive ICC Final. India previously lost the World Test Championship final and ODI World Cup final against Australia in 2023.
South Africa beat Sri Lanka, Nepal, Netherlands and Bangladesh in the group stage. Aiden Markram and Co. defeated co-hosts USA, England and West Indies in the Super 8. The Proteas men defeated Afghanistan by 9 wickets in the semi-final and qualified for their first-ever ICC final.
T20 World Cup 2024 Prize money
20 teams participated in the ninth edition of the ICC T20 World Cup for the first time in the history of the tournament. The title-winning team, India or South Africa, will get $2.45 million (INR 20.36 crores Approx) while the runner-up of the tournament will receive $1.28 million (INR 10.63 crores Approx.). Losers of the semi-finals, England and Afghanistan, will get $787,500 (INR 6.5 crores Approx.).
The teams that qualified for the Super 8 stage will get $382,500 (INR 3.17 crores Approx.) and the 9th to 12th placed teams will receive $247,500 (INR 2.05 crores Approx.) while the 13th to 20th placed teams will get $225,000 (INR 1.87 crores Approx).
