New Delhi: Defending champions of the UEFA Champions League, Real Madrid have announced the travelling squad for their second match of the league stage of the competition. It was a pretty standard squad from the champions considering the competition but there was one name in the list that struck out the most. Summer signing Kylian Mbappe returned to the squad after missing last night’s Madrid derby.
The forward was a doubt for the game after he suffered an injury in the club’s victory over Alaves on the 24th of September and was expected to be out for three weeks, hence missing the club’s second UEFA Champions League clash. However, he has now been included in the travelling squad after feeling better following his muscle injury. The French star could also feature against Lille if he is given the green light by the medical staff.

A few first team players have been excluded from the squad for the game against Lille for various injury issues. First-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois suffered an abductor injury last night and will not participate in the game, leaving the door open for Andriy Lunin to step up once again. Long term absentees David Alaba, Dani Ceballos, and Brahim Diaz are the other first-teamers that are excluded from the trip to France.

Kylian Mbappe’s trip to France along with his other Real Madrid teammates is his first time being back in the country that helped him make his name following his exit from PSG this summer. He wasn’t the only Mbappe to leave the Parisians this summer though. His younger brother, Ethan Mbappe, also left the Ligue 1 side in search of more first team opportunities. Ethan decided to remain in his homeland and joined the team Real Madrid face on Wednesday, LOSC Lille.
The younger Mbappe was also dealing with his share of injuries and recently made his return to the Lille squad in their 3-0 win over Le Havre AC. If both Mbappe brothers remain fit for this clash, it’ll be the first time these two will face off against each other in a professional game. If not, at least the brothers would get to spend some time with each other. Kylian’s first appearance on French soil since leaving France will be at the same stadium where me made his last appearance on French soil if he plays against Lille.
