Lenovo Salesman Sues for $1.5mn After Being Fired for Urinating in Hotel Lobby. Know Why

New York: A 66-year-old Lenovo computer salesman has sued the company for $1.5 million after he was fired for urinating in a US hotel lobby. The employee, identified as Richard Becker, argued that his bladder condition forced him to relieve himself in the Times Square hotel.

The lawsuit was filed on Friday in New York where Richard accused the company of “discrimination on the basis of disability in violation of New York State and New York City human rights laws.”

According to the lawsuit, Becker was returning to his hotel near New York’s Times Square after a work dinner in February when he found himself “overwhelmed” and was forced to take nature’s call in a vestibule located on a separate floor from the hotel’s main lobby.

“A coworker noticed Becker urinating, and — out of apparent spite and malice — promptly reported him to HR, even though Becker’s conduct caused no harm to anyone whatsoever,” the lawsuit read.

The lawsuit further states that Becker has been dealing with a chronic bladder condition since 2016 and has been under treatment for the same.

The court filing said that the Lenovo colleagues and managers were also made of Becker’s condition.

“No sympathy, let alone compliance with the law, would be forthcoming from Lenovo. Instead, within days, Becker was terminated by his employer, following a sham HR ‘investigation’ in which he was not even interviewed,,” it read.

Following this incident, the man has been unemployed and a decision in the matter is yet to be made.
