Liam Lawson replaces Sergio Perez at Red Bull for F1 2025 season

New Delhi: Red Bull Racing of the Formula One (F1) have announced New Zealand’s Liam Lawson as the replacement for Sergio Perez for the next season (2025). Lawson will be joining four-time world champion Max Verstappen as his new teammate and will bolster the team at the grand stage i.e. Grand Prix. Perez, who hails from Mexico, departed from the team on Wednesday, as per the announcement.

22-year-old Lawson has three top-10 finishes to his credit so far in his rising F1 career and he bids adieu to Red Bull’s sister team Racing Bulls after an under-pressure Perez left the team following four seasons with them.

“To be announced as an Oracle Red Bull Racing Driver is a lifelong dream for me, this is something I’ve wanted and worked towards since I was eight years old,” Lawson said in a statement on Thursday. He reflected on his journey so far and thanked his team at VCARB for their support. He highlighted Christian, Helmut, and the whole Red Bull family for providing him with this opportunity and said that he is excited to work alongside Verstappen and learn from him.

What the Red Bull boss said

Red Bull boss Christian Horner said Lawson has proved it to them that he is a capable driver and hopes that the youngster can face challenges with his chin up. “I’m delighted to announce that Liam Lawson will join the Team in 2025. Liam’s performances over the course of his two stints with Racing Bulls have demonstrated that he’s not only capable of delivering strong results but that he’s also a real racer, not afraid to mix it with the best and come out on top,” Horner spoke.

Lawson’s arrival at Red Bull continues their long history of promoting drivers from within the Red Bull Junior Programme as he follows the footsteps of champions like Sebastian Vettel and Verstappen of course. On racing alongside Verstappen, Horner said that it would be a daunting task for Lawson but he is sure that the New Zealander can rise to that challenge and deliver them some “outstanding results.”

Liam Lawson has been named as the replacement for Sergio Perez at the Red Bull Racing for the next F1 season. Lawson began his F1 journey in 2019 and debuted in 2023 at the Dutch Grand Prix.  Other Sports Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
