New Delhi: With an aim to surpass the Tokyo Paralympics medal tally, India is on the course of sending a large contingent of the para-athletes for the upcoming Paris Paralympics 2024. The Paralympic Games will commence from August 28 with the opening ceremony while the battles for the elusive medals will begin on August 29.
At the Tokyo Paralympic Games, India had send a contingent of 54 talented athletes while in Paris, a strong and large contingent featuring 84 athletes, 30 more than the previous one, will fight it out with an aim to bring laurels to the country. The Indian women participants from the last edition of the Paralympics has also increased from 14 to 32.
India will compete in three new sports – para cycling, para rowing and blind judo – at the Paris Paralympics, extending the country’s participation to 12 sports. Overall, 22 sports will be held at Paris 2024.
The Tokyo Paralympics saw India win 19 medals – five gold, eight silver, and six bronze. This time, the country is hoping to increase its medal tally with as many as 25 medals expected at least as per the people associated with the para-athletes. With just four days left for the Paralympics to begin, let’s take a look at all the Indian athletes who have qualified for the Games.
