New Delhi: A traditional dish and a regional delicacy, the Magji Laddoo has been awarded the Geographical Indication (GI) tag. This sweet, widely relished in Odisha, is made from a combination of unique ingredients – buffalo milk cheese, sugar, and cardamom.
In a slow and meticulous process, the buffalo milk cheese is boiled with sugar, with the cardamom slowly added. Finally, the resulting mixture is rolled into small balls.
Awarded by the Geographical Indications Registry in Chennai, the prestigious GI tag is only given to products with a specific geographical origin and qualities or a reputation due to that origin. Seven products from Odisha have received the prestigious GI Tag. Let us learn about these products.
