New Delhi: Liverpool has finally secured their first signing of the season, bringing in Federico Chiesa for £2.5 million with performance-based add-ons. The 26-year-old has successfully completed a medical and signed a four-year deal with the side and is set to join the Reds squad.
Chiesa was the star of the Italian squad that had beat England on penalties in the Euro 2020 finals at Wembley. He has earned 51 caps for Italy and was even part of their Euro 2024 squad. Chiesa has made 131 appearances and scored 32 goals for Juventus in four years including 10 in 37 matches last season.

Chiesa reacted to the news well and told Liverpoolfc.com “I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, ‘Do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans. Adding further, “So, I’m so happy and I can’t wait to get started.”
Federico Chiesa will wear the No. 14 jersey for Liverpool. Explaining his choice, Chiesa said the number holds great significance for him as he has been wearing the same number with the national team. He said it was an easy pick for him as Liverpool sent him a video and the end of the video had my career [and] the goals I scored with Fiorentina and Juventus – it was me with the No.14 shirt on so I said, ‘Ah, it was destined to be!’, so I chose the No.14.”
The left winger is the son of former Italy striker Enrico Chiesa and would be the first player signed by Liverpool after the appointment of new manager Arne Slot. On Tuesday, Liverpool also acquired Georgian goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, he will remain with Valencia for the remainder of the 2024/25 season.
