And why shouldn’t he be praised? The pace spearhead had combined with all-rounder Hardik Pandya to turn it around exceptionally for India in the final, specially during the last five overs. The two were brought in for their second spell in the match at a time when South Africa needed run-a-ball 30 off 30. What followed next was pure thriller and drama as the duo wreaked havoc to ensure that the Proteas didn’t go over the line and beat them by seven runs.

The 30-year-old picked up 15 wickets throughout India’s campaign at the mega-event that concluded with the final battle in Barbados on June 29. India bagged their second T20 World Cup that arrived after a 17-year-long wait. He was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for his performance.

Once-in-a-generation bowler – Kohli

Kohli had called Bumrah a “once in a generation” player during his speech at the Wankhede Stadium that started with a special mention for the right-arm quick. It prompted the crowd to chant Bumrah’s name and appreciate him for his efforts.

“What I would like everyone to do is to applaud a guy who brought us back into games again, and again, and again. It was phenomenal. He is a once-in-a-generation bowler. I am so glad he plays for us,” Kohli, who quit T20Is at the end of the World Cup, had said. Bumrah was welcomed with flower petals after arriving at his Ahmedabad home recently.
