New Delhi: Neeraj Chopra finished second in the Diamond League Finals 2024 on September 15 in Brussels, Belgium. His best attempt on the night was 87.86 meters, just 1cm behind Grenada’s Anderson Peters, who threw 87.87 meters to win the men’s javelin throw competition.
Peters opened with his best throw on the first attempt and maintained the first position throughout the event to win the silverware. Chopra was playing his last competition of the season and he looked far from his best. He had a brilliant run of finishing in the top three of every tournament since 2018.
He started the final with a brilliant attempt of 86.82m to come in second at the end of round one. Chopra returned with his second attempt of 83.49m but the 26-year-old hit his best attempt of the evening with his third attempt.
Chopra looked to cross the mark set by Peters with three attempts remaining but he came up with attempts of 82.04m, 83.30m and 86.46m to conclude the tournament. He had some trouble with his footing in the later attempts and fell to his left side twice after throwing, but the problem didn’t stop him from keeping second position.
