London Tragedy: Woman Found Dead in Car Boot; Family in India Accuses Husband, Demands Justice

London: Days after the body of 24-year-old Indian-origin woman Harshita Brella was found in the boot of a car in London, her family has raised her voice and sought justice for their lost daughter. The family members of the victim have held the deceased’s husband responsible and have raised issues of domestic violence and torture that their daughter had to face abroad.

Harshita Brella, a 24-year-old Indian-origin lady who was living in London with her husband, was found dead in the boot of a car in East London. Her body was discovered in Ilford last week and according to the police, her husband, Pankaj Lamba is the main suspect in this London tragedy. The victim’s husband is absconding and the police officials believe that he has fled the country. 

In interactions with the media, the family of the deceased including her father and sister have blamed their son-in-law for their daughter/sister’s murder. They believe that she wasn’t protected well enough by the police despite reporting abuse and domestic violence. In an exclusive interview with a leading foreign media portal, the Harshita Brella’s sister Sonia Dabas said, “I believe the police did not do enough to help her or protect my sister. She was very innocent, so kindhearted but just a kid really. She reported her abuse but the police processes just made her feel even more scared and alone. It drove her back to Pankaj.”

Harshita Brella’s Postmortem Report

According to The Guardian, the postmortem report of Harshita Brella whose body was found in the boot of a car in Ilford, had died of strangulation. According to the police, a silver Vauxhall Corsa was used to transport her body to London, which is about a hundred miles away from where she was living.

Victim Faced Domestic Violence for Months, Suffered Miscarriage

Harshita Brella’s sister has also said that she had been facing domestic violence for months and that she had even fled their house in Northamtonpshire in the end of August. She filed a case against her husband and was also given a Domestic Violence Protection Order (DVPO); according to the family, she was put in a hotel by the police where she also suffered a miscarriage but eventually she was sent back to her husband.

In a statement, the Northamptonshire Police spokesperson said, “This tragic case will in due course become the subject of a domestic homicide review, in which all police actions relating to it will be fully scrutinised, so it would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time.”

Harshita Brella’s Last Phone Call with Family

In the interview with the leading foreign media portal, Harshita Brella’s sister spoke to her days before she was killed and her body was discovered in a car boot. The deceased’s sister said, “She was in good spirits when she called me, she seemed happy and said that Pankaj was coming over for dinner.”

For the next three days, her family members could not reach her and on Friday, five days after, her father was informed that they had found a body which they believed was Brella’s. 

Harshita Brella’s Family Demands Justice, Says Will Continue to Fight

The deceased’s family is now seeking justice and has said that they will continue to fight till they do not receive answers from the UK Police. Harshita Brella’s sister said, “This is not just Harshita’s murder, it is the murder of me and my mother and my father. We are nothing without her. It is terrible for us that she is alone over there,” he said. “We are in so much pain knowing we do not even have her body to perform our rituals and bring her peace. All we want is to have her back with us.”
