‘Lost a true Ratan of Bharat’: Sports community mourns passing of Ratan Tata

New Delhi: Ratan Tata, the chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, passed away on Wednesday night, October 9, at the age of 86. He was admitted to a Mumbai hospital for the past few days and was in intensive care.

There were many reports of his hospital admission earlier this week but Ratan Tata had reassured the public, stating that he was undergoing routine medical checkups due to his age and related health concerns.

However, public concerns went high as reports suggest his health condition has worsened. Ratan Tata on Monday took to social media to address the rumours about his health and said “There is no cause for concern. I remain in good spirits”. Tata said in a released statement and asked the public and media to refrain from spreading misinformation.

But on Wednesday night Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran released a statement and said “It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation”. After his sad demise, the sports community has been paying tributes to the veteran industrialist.
