Shubman Gill’s disappointing show in Duleep Trophy

Gill-led India A suffered a 76-run defeat against India B in the clash between the two sides at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday. The likes of Gill, Riyan Parag, Mayank Agarwal and Dhruv Jurel failed to deliver with the willow as India A failed to chase down the target of 275 runs in their second innings to lose the game by a big margin.

Asked to chase a tricky target of 275 runs, India A got off to a shaky start with opener Agarwal getting dismissed cheaply on 4 off 3 balls before Parag departed after scoring 31 off 18 balls to share a 44-run stand for the second wicket with skipper Gill. The India A skipper was expected to hold the fort from one end but he failed to do so as he was dismissed after scoring 21 off 35 balls.

KL Rahul’s half-century went in vain as India A eventually fell short of the target by a big margin and suffered a comprehensive defeat against the Abhimanyu Easwaran-led side. Gill will now join Team India’s camp in Chennai ahead of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh having been named in the squad for the 1st Test against the visitors which gets underway on September 19.
