New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday provided a big relief to the lottery distributors. The apex ruled on Tuesday that lottery distributors are not required to pay service tax to the central government.

The Supreme Court affirmed the finding that lottery comes under “betting and gambling” under Entry 62 of the State List and hence, only the State Government can levy tax, Live Law posted on X.

A two-judge bench of Justices BV Nagarathna and NK Singh has rejected the appeal of the Central Government against the decision of the Sikkim High Court.
