Dhawan made his international debut in the ODI series against Australia in 2010 in Visakhapatnam but didn’t have a great start to his career. However, after initial failures, Dhawan made a brilliant comeback in the Indian team in 2013 and sealed his spot in all formats of the game.
Dhawan created history by scoring the fastest hundred on Test debut in just 85 balls. He also scored the most runs in the back-to-back editions of the Champions Trophy in 2013 and 2017 and won the ‘golden bat’. Dhawan was also the highest run scorer for India in the 2015 ODI World Cup.
The Indian opener played 167 ODIs for India and scored 6793 runs at an average of 44.11, registering seven centuries and five fifties. He also scored 1759 runs in 68 T20I matches at a strike rate of 126.36 including 11 fifties. He has scored 2315 runs in 34 Tests at an average of 40.61.
Many famous celebrities and cricketers congratulated Dhawan for his outstanding contribution to the Indian cricket. Sanju Samson also posted a heartfelt message for Dhawan on his Instagram story and wrote “Loved every moment with you on the field Shikkipa… and super excited to see your next phase”.
