New Delhi: Novak Djokovic began his quest for a record 25th Grand Slam with a confident victory against US prodigy Nishesh Basavareddy in the first round of the Australian Open 2025. Chasing history in Melbourne, Djokovic was pictured arriving in the country with an interesting Pikachu bag which instantly caught the attention of many, leading to multiple theories with fans connecting the dots on social media.

While it is not public if Djokovic is a Pokémon fan, his Pikachu bag has certainly become a talking point among his loyalists. But what is the significance behind it? It’s just a bag after all.

Well, a theory suggests that the Pikachu bag which belongs to his son can be symbolic of Djokovic’s bid for a 25th Grand Slam crown in Australia. Those familiar with the Pokémon database – Pokedex would know that the Pikachu is the 25th Pokemon in it. Pikachu’s number 25 is symbolic as Djokovic is after his 25th Grand Slam title in the tournament.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion is currently tied with Margaret Court and a triumph at the Australian Open 2025 will see him become the first-ever player in tennis history to win 25 Grand Slam titles across all eras. It will settle the GOAT debate for once and all as Djokovic will etch his name in tennis history with his unprecedented feat.

The Serbian ace has been chasing his record 25th Grand Slam title since his US Open triumph in 2023 and is hopeful the wild theories around the Pikachu bag can come true.

“Yes, I find it interesting and amusing, I had a lot of fun with it. Honestly, I haven’t done it intentionally. Whether the Lord did it intentionally, like it happened with those 22 times in Adelaide… I didn’t do that intentionally either, at least not on a conscious level, probably I did on some unconscious level. Whatever the symbolics, I hope it happens (25th Slam),” Djokovic tld Serbian reporters in Melbourne about the viral Pikachu bag.

Superstitions and coincidences are not uncommon for Djokovic. In 2023, Djokovic tapped his index finger 22 times on his head after beating Sebastian Korda in the Adelaide Finals before clinching his 22nd Grand Slam title at the Australian Open.

Jaime Faria makes Djokovic work hard in 2nd round

Djokovic is currently locking horns with 21-year-old Portuguese sensation Jaime Faria in his second-round clash at the Australian Open 2025 and has been made to work hard by the youngster, who is playing only his second career Grand Slam match against the mighty Serb. After being outplayed in the 1st set, Faria came from behind to take the second set 7-6(4), forcing a 4-setter against the 24-time Grand Slam champion.

Novak Djokovic is hopeful his son’s pikachu bag can turn out to be a lucky charm for him in his quest for a record 25th Grand Slam at the Australian Open 2025.  Tennis Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
