New Delhi: Luis Suarez was in a wonderful touch, striking twice on Saturday as Inter Miami sealed a 2-0 win against FC Cincinnati and became the first team to secure a playoff berth for this season’s Major League Soccer. Suarez scored his first within 32 seconds from kick-off and then proceeded to pull off a brace in the sixth minute.
Having suffered a humiliating 6-1 loss at the hands of Cincinnati in Ohio back in July, Gerardo Martino’s side appeared much determined coming into the game. For the first goal, Yannick Bright fed Marcelo Weigandt, who was down on the right. The 24-year-old then passed it to Suarez, who brought the ball down and buried it in the net. Then Matias Rojas linked up with Suarez and took the scoreline to 2-0. The incredible brace saw even Messi take note and smile from the stands.

Along with Lionel Messi, NFL legend Tom Brady too was in attendance alongside Miami co-owner David Beckham. Miami were in complete control of the game until three minutes, with their defender Tomas Aviles being sent off with a second yellow card due to a reckless duel with Kevin Kelsy. Despite being reduced to a ten-man side team, Miami ensured that Cincinnati couldn’t make a comeback in the game.
Miami are currently eight points above second-ranked Cincinnati in the Eastern Conference despite being without Messi. For now, Messi has been missing in action since the Copa America 2024 finals against Colombia, which Argentina won. Leo, though, is expected by Miami to return before the end of the regular season, which will be concluding on October 19th. The following week, the playoffs will start, and Miami want one of their best players to be part of the playing.
