New Delhi: Maha Kumbh, one of the biggest gatherings on this planet, is currently underway in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. All efforts are being made to make the event successful. Cloth bags, steel plates, and steel glasses are being given out at the Maha Kumbh to keep the event plastic-free, according to an RSS official.
Around 70,000 of these bags have been handed out from six centres.
Additionally, 2 million steel plates and glasses have been gathered from across the country. To replace plastic and thermocol utensils, these items are being distributed to all langars (community kitchens) and food outlets within the event.
Combating Plastic Pollution at the Maha Kumbh Mela
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, supports this eco-friendly movement. He has urged pilgrims not to use single-use plastics and to choose sustainable options. He called for everyone to take responsibility for the environment during this spiritual gathering.

The Maha Kumbh Mela started on January 13, 2025, and will end on February 26, 2025. More than 7 crore pilgrims took dips at the Sangam from January 11 to January 16. According to an official statement, over 30 lakh devotees bathed in the holy waters on Thursday, seeking blessings. The state government expects over 45 crore people to attend this time.
