New Delhi: Real Betis are progressing with talks for a loan move for Antony from Manchester United. The Brazil international hasn’t yet started for Man United this season and has made only seven substitute appearances for the side in the Premier League. With several clubs showing interest in Antony, Real Betis are leading the race and would like to have him for the second half of the La Liga campaign.
United are most likely to pay for a portion of the 24-year-old’s wages as Antony has lately struggled to justify the £80m signing from Ajax in 2022. Since coming to the club he has managed to score only 12 times in his 95 games across competition. This season he has made two starts in the Europa League and once in the EFL Cup, during United’s loss in the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Against Southampton, Antony came off the bench, missing an open goal during United’s late win in the game. Despite the miss, Amorim was full of praises for Antony though he didn’t comment on the latter’s future with the club. In the game, Antony even took the No.10 place instead of his preferred wing-back position as Amad Diallo pushed on.
Former Manchester boss Manuel Pellegrini is at the helm of Betisas the team has been struggling at the 11th place in the table. The Los Verdiblancos have been looking for a right-sided attacking player having sold Assane Diao to Como recently.
While Antony isn’t United’s high-paid player, unloading even a fragment of his salary would help the Red Devils to raise capital for incoming transfers as head coach Ruben Amorim has expressed keenness for improving their squad with new players. Antony’s contract at Old Trafford is until 2027 and has the option to extend another year.
Will Antony benefit from moving to Real Betis?
Though it may be difficult to find a permanent move for Antony, the loan will be beneficial for the Brazil Winger as he will likely get more minutes and even become a better summer target. If Antony does depart, Amorim would want a replacement who can fit better with his tactical plans.
United are also looking for a club for Marcus Rashford to move during the January window. It has been reported that Borussia Dortmund are becoming a preferred contender over AC Milan as the Italian club have been trying to rope in Kyle Walker from Manchester City instead. The laws of Serie A limit Milan to signing just one English player in January and it has to be between Rashford and Walker.
