New Delhi: Manchester United’s preparations for the upcoming season are underway in full swing as the side gears up for its second pre-season friendly against Scottish side Rangers. Erik Ten Hag’s side started their pre-season with a narrow 1-0 loss to Rosenborg in Norway on Monday and will be hoping for a better result in their clash against Rangers.
Some exciting names will be involved in United’s game against Rangers and fans will likely see new signing Leny Yoro in action for the first time since his signing was announced. The young defender has been handed the number 15 jersey at the club, previously worn by former captain and club legend Nemanja Vidic. Yoro wore the same number at Lille and donning the same number as the iconic Serb at Manchester United, he’ll have huge boots to fill.
Yoro had his first training session with the club on Friday when he trained alongside his new teammates at Carrington and it seems like fans won’t have to wait long to see him in action in United colours. He’s joined by other new faces that weren’t involved in the loss to Rosenborg.

Youngster Amad Traore, goalkeeper Andre Onana and the returning Jadon Sancho, all are in contention for their first minutes of pre-season at Murrayfield in Edinburgh. On the absentee list for this game are Brazilian winger Anthony, defender Victor Lindelof, and Marcus Rashford, all of whom miss the game through small niggles.
Former captain Harry Maguire, left-back Tyrell Malacia and midfielder Scott McTominay, all stay back at Carrington to work on their fitness and sharpness as Magurie and Malacia are both coming back from injuries while McTominay returns following the Euros in Germany.
The Red Devils had a disappointing 2023/24 season where they finished eighth in the league but managed to salvage the season somewhat by winning the FA Cup, ensuring European football for the side in the coming season. They’ve made a strong start in building a base for the 2024/25 season bringing in talented young players like Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro, while they also remain in conversations for Mathias De Ligt, Jarrad Branthwaite, and Manuel Ugarte.
Several fresh faces have joined the squad for this game in Edinburgh, who weren’t present in the pre-season opener against Rosenborg. The game will be played at 8:30 pm IST (16:00 BST) and will be live-streamed on the Manchester United app and website.
Following the game against Rangers, Manchester United will play Arsenal, Real Betis, and Liverpool as part of their preparations for the upcoming season.
