New Delhi: Legendary Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane slammed Ruben Amorim’s side after their 0-1 defeat against Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday. United’s woeful run continued in the English top flight as they lost their 18th league match of the season after going down against Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge.
United were sunk by a goal from defender Marc Cucurella in the second half as Chelsea broke into the top four with the crucial win. United, on the other hand, are now winless in their last eight Premier League appearances after losing their penultimate league match of the season. This is the first time United have gone winless in 8 games in the Premier League since the 1989-90 season.
A frustrated Keane lashed out at United after their shambolic defeat against Chelsea as he raised questions about whether there was anything positive about the club’s performance at the Stamford Bridge. Keane said United are good at nothing at present as he sympathised with the fans, who have also accepted that the club’s standards have fallen drastically.
“What are the positives with this team?” Keane said on Sky Sports.
“You sit up and watch certain teams, and you hang your hat on something. You say they’re really technically very good, they’re fit, they’re brilliant, they’re good at set-pieces. You look at United and go, they’re not really good at anything.
“The fans, even here tonight, I don’t think the United fans are angry anymore. It’s just an acceptance. Even the manager’s interview there, he’s accepting where they are. Now, obviously, you have to be realistic, but you still want to show emotion and a bit of anger. I think United fans will be going back up the motorway to Manchester tonight going: ‘Oh, that’s what we thought would probably happen.’ And that’s a sad thing to do,” he added.
In what has been one of the worst seasons in the club’s history, United are currently languishing in the 16th spot on the Premier League table, just two positions above the relegation zone with only 39 points from 37 matches. United’s 18 defeats in the Premier League is the most since they lost 20 matches in the league in the 1973-74 season.
