New Delhi: Manchester United are closing in on a deal for £15m-£20m Bayern Munich defender Noussair Mazraoui for the right-back. However, a potential stumbling block is the need to sell Aaron Wan-Bissaka to finance the transfer.
It is reported that United and the Morocco international have reached an agreement on personal matters and are currently finalising a sum with Bayern to seal the transaction. According to the planned agreement, United would pay Mazraoui about £15 million with an additional £5 million due when the add-ons specified in the contract are completed.
Mazraoui’s potential to join West Ham was shattered when they were unable to reach an agreement, making room for United to sign the 26-year-old full-back. But before acquiring Mazraoui, United must get rid of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. They are hoping that West Ham will offer the £15 million they require for the right-back, whom they acquired for £50 million from Crystal Palace five years ago.
With this signing, Mazraoui will become United’s third senior signing this summer. Earlier, Joshua Zirkzee joined United from Bologna for £36.5m, with Leny Yoro coming from Lille in a deal worth £52m.
The Dutch-born Morocco star was coached by Erik ten Hag at Ajax Academy from 2018 until he departed from Old Trafford four years later. In the group stage of the 2018–19 season, Mazroui netted his first goal as a senior against Bayern Munich and Benfica to help Ajax advance to the Champions League semi-finals.
Noussair Mazaoui moved to Bayern Munich on a free transfer in 2022, and his teammate Ryan Gravenberch joined Bayern in the same window. However, neither of them could hold down a regular first-team place.
Gravenberch already departed Allianz Arena to join Liverpool at the close of the transfer window in the summer of last year. Now Mazraoui, who finished in the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup with Morocco, appears ready to rejoin his old teammate in the Premier League.
Manchester United are closing in on their third summer signing, with Noussair Mazraoui, an Ajax player who trained under Erik ten Hag- close to completing a move from Bayern Munich. Football Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
