New Delhi: In a massive blow for Team India, pace spreadhead Jasprit Bumrah has been advised bed rest by the Indian cricket board ahead of the crucial England series and the all-important Champions Trophy 2025 which follows it. Bumrah, who suffered a back spasm in the fifth and final Test match against Australia, has been suffering from swelling on his back since then.
Bumrah, who was the standout performer for the Men in Blue in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, could not bowl in the final innings of the Sydney Test match due to the back problem, eventually leading to India’s loss. Bumrah was declared unfit to bowl just before the second innings and advised precautionary rest taking into account the hectic five Test matches.
Bumrah doubtful for England series, CT 2025?
Now, according to a report in the Times of India, Bumrah, who has reached India, has been advised to rest at home till the time his swelling on the back subsides and then eventually, the ace pacer would have to report at BCCI’s Centre for Excellence in Bengaluru for further monitoring. This has cast a doubt on the pacer’s participation in the upcoming England series, which starts on January 22 and the crucial CT 2025, which begins on February 9.
Although, there is no fixed date as to when the fast bowler will have to report at the COE for further action but it seems like the injury-prone pacer will be advised further rest ahead of the CT 2025. India cricket board will afford to miss his services for the England ODIs but certainly not the big ICC event.
BCCI announced the squad for the England T20 series but is yet to decide on the team for the 50-over matches and the Champions Trophy. With India opening their campaign against Bangladesh on February 20 at Dubai, multiple media reports suggest that Bumrah will be unable to make it in the group clashes.
