New Delhi: UFC 308 went down this weekend and left the UFC BMF champion’s first-ever knock-out loss in UFC. Max Holloway was knocked out in the third round by UFC Featherweight Champion Ilia Topuria at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on October 27, Sunday.
Topuria put on a great show against Holloway, he did all the things that he said before the fight. Topuria invited Holloway in the first second of the fight to go for the shots but Holoway refused. This shows that Topuria was in high confidence and won the fight.
It was a rare time in Holloway’s career that anybody outboxed him in the fight. Holloway landed more punches but his opponent hit more significant strikes.
After the fight, Holloway stated that ‘he’ll be back in next summer for the big July card’. Holloway also backed himself in the lightweight division. This will be the last fight in the featherweight division for the BMF champion. Holloway won the BMF title in the lightweight category by defeating Justin Gaethje.
“Like I said, I had the best 145 cut here, But what else is there to do? I had a couple times to reclaim it. New guys coming up. Yeah, that’d be fun. But, I think 155 looks more fun, fighting more, the caliber, everyone there, and the names there, it looks really exciting to put my name in the mix.” Holloway added.
Holloway has achieved everything in the Featherweight division. He won the title once and defeated everyone except Alexander Volkoanvski and Topuria. It will be the best move for the champion to move upward in the division.
The BMF curse is real!
The BMF title curse is going real as Max Holloway became the next victim of the BMF championship. The BMF title was introduced in the fight between Jorge Masvidal vs Nate Diaz. Masvidal won the title but in his next fight, he was knocked out by Kamaru Usman. The same happens with Max Holloway as he won the title in his last fight.
