MCG to swelter on Boxing Day Test, weather forecast reveals record heat conditions

New Delhi: The audience at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is set to swelter throughout the annual Boxing Day Test as weather forecast predicts “record heat” in the city beginning from December 26, the first day of the game. According to senior meteorologist at Bureau of Meteorology, Angus Hines, Melbourne could reach a new weather record during the fourth Test between India and Australia.

“A very hot Boxing Day for large parts of the country. Melbourne could be the warmest day for the first day of the Boxing Day test that we’ve seen on record,” Mr. Hines said as quoted by Fox Cricket. In Melbourne, the temperature might rise to 39 degrees Celsius on Boxing Day and those flocking the giant stadium will surely have to carry a lot of sunscreen.

The Boxing Day clash, that too between Australia and India, is a holiday outing for the families throughout the country as the opening day tickets have been sold out almost a month before.

Build-up to 4th Test

The ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy is currently tied at 1-1 as the previous game was drawn due to continuous rain interruptions throughout the course of the match. It was just the second day which went smoothly without any hassle but the rest of the days saw heavy peltering at the Gabba, spoiling one of the five Tests of the series. Although Australia dominated the game, India looked to bounce back in the later parts of the game until the dark clouds arrived and the ground soon became a pool.

Nonetheless, the two teams have reached Melbourne for the Boxing Day Test and the preparations are in full swing. Team India is regularly holding practice sessions and will be without senior player Ravichandran Ashwin, walking into the match. The Indian all-rounder announced his international cricket retirement on the final day of the Brisbane Test, leaving the squad emotional. It remains to be seen if India will be able to take a lead in the series or if the Aussies will shine with home dominance.

For the Boxing Day Test between Australia and India, the sun won’t be doing any mercy at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as the city is set to witness record heat, as per the weather forecast.  Homepage Top Featured Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
