New Delhi: A new day brings new hope. While we all abide by this saying and also witness it happen in our lives everyday but for star Pakistan player and former captain Babar Azam, it seems this is not applicable. Flop show and bad fate continued for the superstar of Pakistan cricket again on Thursday after he failed yet another time with the bat in the second innings of the first Test match against England in Multan.
Babar was dismissed on 5 runs after facing 15 deliveries, with just a lone boundary the only thing to cheer about in his unfortunate stint at the crease. The right-handed batter was caught behind by wicketkeeper Jamie Smith off the bowling of Gus Atkinson, leaving his team in a spot of bother yet again. The first innings for the Pakistan player was a bit better as he scored 30 off 71 balls in Multan, which undoubtedly seems to b e batting paradise.
18 innings without a 50-plus score
With another batting failure, it has been 18 innings since Babar Azam scored a 50-plus score. The batter, who was know as Virat Kohli of Pakistan in terms of run-scoring, last slammed a century in January 2023 against New Zealand. Since the last 21 months of decline, Babar has registered scores of 14, 24, 27, 13, 24, 39, 21, 14, 1, 41, 26, 23, 0, 22, 31, 11, 30 and 5, which clearly highlights his struggles.
Babar trolled for dropping a sitter
Apart from the batting failure, Babar was sloppy on the field today as he dropped an easy catch of star England batter Joe Root and let him score him score his sixth Test double hundred. The incident occurred when Root was batting on 186, 14 short of his sensation double century, earlier in the day. Babar fumbled and let the easy opportunity slip out of hands which allowed the English team to score a mammoth first innings total of 658.
