New Delhi: Mitchell Starc ripped through the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batting line-up in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Sunday to bring a 17-year-long wait for the Delhi Capitals (DC). Starc became the first DC bowler since Amit Mishra in 2008 to bag a five-wicket-haul in the IPL. The Australian pacer’s heroics helped DC skittle out SRH for 163 runs while batting first in the clash at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Vizag.

Starc, who did well against Sunrisers Hyderabad last season, once again decimated their destructive top order by taking the crucial wickets of the dangerous Travis Head, Ishan Kishan and Nitish Kumar Reddy. He opened his account by dismissing Kishan cheaply on just 2 off 5 balls before removing Reddy on a duck.

SRH earlier lost opener Abhishek Sharma on 1 in the very first over as he was run out trying to steal a single. Starc then ran through their top order with an exceptional spell. The Aussie pacer also got rid of Head after the left-hander had raced to 22 off 12 balls. Starc trapped Head with a short ball as he was caught behind by DC wicket-keeper KL Rahul.

Starc completed his fifer after dismissing South Africa all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, who came on as an impact substitute for the franchise. The left-arm pacer finished with excellent figures of 5/35 to end a 17-year-long wait by becoming only the second bowler after Mishra to take a fifer for DC. Mishra took a five-wicket haul for Delhi against Deccan Chargers in IPL 2008.

Mitchell Starc makes Travis Head is bunny

Starc made Head his bunny by getting the better of the SRH opener once again in the IPL 2025 on Sunday. The Australian pacer dismissed his Aussie teammate for the sixth time in just 8 matches in top-flight cricket. Starc has dismissed Head six times in top-flight meetings while conceding only 18 runs against him off 34 deliveries.

Starc dismissed Head once in two meetings between them in IPL 2024. He cleaned up Head on a duck during the clash between his former side KKR, and SRH in the group stage of IPL 2024. In the IPL 2024 final, Starc couldn’t get rid of Head but produced an exceptional spell of 2-14 off his 3 overs to help KKR win a one-sided clash by 8 wickets and lift their 3rd IPL title.
