Hyderabad: Dr Pemmasani Chandrashekhar, NRI doctor and businessman who made his fortune in the USA, became a first time-MP from Guntur Lok Sabha constituency on a TDP ticket and was inducted into the Modi cabinet on Sunday.
The 48-year-old leader won the Guntur Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 3.44 lakh votes, defeating his opponent and YSRCP candidate Kilari Venkata Rosaiah.
He is a doctor by profession and has various business interests including, UWorld, an online learning platform for competitive exams from SAT to US Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). He emerged as the richest MP from Telugu speaking states with a networth of Rs 5,785.28 crore.
He acquired his MBBS degree at NTR university of Health Sciences in Andhra Pradesh in 1999 while he obtained his MD at Geisinger Medical Centre in Daniville, Pennsylvania. His father Sambasiva Rao, was associated with TDP in Narsaraopet since its inception.
Chandrasekhar’s movable and immovable assets are mostly in Texas, USA and Hyderabad. The minister and his wife Sriratna Koneru own movable properties worth Rs 4,600 crore while their immovable assets are worth over Rs 1,000 crores. The couple also own joint shares in almost 100 companies across the world.
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) won 16 Lok Sabha seats in Lok Sabha elections and 135 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in the recently concluded elections.
