New Delhi: Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah scripted history by becoming the first player in the Premier League to win the Golden Boot, Playmaker of the Season award and the Player of the Season award in a single season. Salah bagged the Premier League Golden Boot on Sunday after finishing as the highest goal-scorer in the 2024-25 season with 29 goals for Liverpool.
Salah was leading the Golden Boot race heading into Liverpool’s last game of the Premier League 2024-25 season against FA Cup winners Crystal Palace on Sunday. The Egyptian forward scored to help the Premier League champions claim a 1-1 draw in the game and extend his tally to 29 this season. Liverpool were also given a guard of honour by Palace ahead of their final game of the season at Anfield.
Salah pipped Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak to the Golden Boot. Isak finished the season with 23 goals for the Magpies. The Liverpool forward also won the Playmaker of the Season award for bagging the most assists in the Premier League 2024-25. Salah, who enjoyed a stellar season for the Reds, produced 18 assists in his campaign, six more than Newcastle’s Jacob Murphy, who finished second.
Salah became only the second player after former Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane to win the Premier League Golden Boot and the Playmaker of the Season award in the same season. Kane won both honours in the 2020-21 season for Spurs after scoring 23 goals and bagging 14 assists in the season. Salah won both awards for the second time in his career after winning the same in the 2021-22 season for scoring 23 goals and producing 13 assists.
Former Newcastle United striker Andrew Cole and ex-Leeds United forward Floyd Hasselbaink also finished with the most goals and the most assists in the 1993-94 and the 1998-99 seasons, respectively. However, the Playmaker of the Season award was only introduced by the Premier League in the 2017-18 season.
