New Delhi: Amid the Goodison Park embroiled in emotion and celebration, Mohamed Salah etched his name into Premier League history. The Merseyside derby is always a roller coaster ride for both sets of fans but Liverpool’s star stole the show at the last Merseyside derby at Goodison. The final whistle blew on a 2-2 draw, but the draw was just a prelude to a historic moment for Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian star started as a right-winger as he sought to continue his exceptional form and help extend the Reds lead at the summit of the Premier League table. When Salah created the equaliser against the Toffees, he cemented his place in Premier League history surpassing former Andy Cole’s record.

The 32-year-old’s cross for Argentine teammate Alexis Mac Allister was his ninth assist away from home in 13 Premier League fixtures this season. With 14 goals and nine assists, he has a combined total of 23 goal contributions. This surpasses Andy Cole’s record of 21 away goal involvements in a single season, set in 1993/94 with Newcastle United, making him the player with the most away goal involvements in a single Premier League season.

Salah also struck to put the Reds ahead with his 22nd league goal this season making it the ninth match in which he has both scored and assisted this season. The assist marked Salah’s 14th assist in just 24 games in the league this season and he could soon break the all-time assist record for a top-flight campaign which is jointly held by Arsenal’s Thierry Henry and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne who provided 20 assists each in 2002/03 and 2019/20 respectively.
