New Delhi: The monsoon-led diseases are on the rise in Delhi NCR regions. Since the past few months, the national capital has experienced most of rain than in previous years. Amid this, reports have noted that regions of the national capital and NCR have swiftly crossed the long-period average (LPA) of 640.4 mm of rainfall, considered the ‘normal’ mark for monsoons this year. Due to the heavy rainfall, there are cases of water logging and other challenges in the city that has led to water-borne diseases like dengue, malaria and more. But apart from these, various types of respiratory illnesses are also on the surge that is posing a significant threat to the health of children.
Earlier Dr Ranga Santhosh Kumar, Consultant General Physician & Diabetologist, Yashoda Hospitals Hyderabad spoke to News9 about monsoon diseases, he said the monsoon is the time when diseases spread very quickly. This mainly happens due to the humid weather conditions that make it an ideal environment for germs to grow and spread for mosquitoes leading to dengue and malaria fever.
Amid the rise in paediatric infections, experts are heightened warning during these months to protect the most vulnerable ones. Respiratory infections in the rainy season are quite prevalent and that is because of the weather change. Some of the common respiratory conditions can be cold, flu and pneumonia.
Preventive measures to take
Since monsoon is the season when all sorts of infections and viruses spread hence, during this time it is imperative to maintain proper hand hygiene, wash your hands with soap and water or an antibacterial and alcohol-based hand sanitiser
It is better to avoid touching the eyes, nose and mouth again and again
Maintaining a proper and healthy diet boosts immunity. Wash the fruits and vegetables before you consume them
