New Delhi: Rainy days are undoubtedly fun, but affect your skin significantly if not taken proper care. The weather during these days is hot and humid, the dampness of which makes the skin more prone to infections and becomes a host for microbes, leading to acne and breakouts.
In an interaction with News9Live, Celebrity skin coach Bhuvneshwari Jadeja Shaktawat, Founder of Skin Studio, Udaipur, listed some tips to make the skin healthy and acne-free during monsoons.
Exfoliate: Use gentle skin exfoliators such as alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) and beta hydroxy acids (BHA). Practicing skin exfoliation regularly helps to open the skin’s pores and clean it up with sweat, debris, and dirt. Practice this technique at least once or twice a week, keeping in mind not overdoing it to prevent skin irritation and excess sebum production.
Clean your face twice a day: The skincare regime should include cleansing the face at least twice a day, after waking up and before sleeping. The humidity and dampness during the rainy season predispose the skin to clogged pores due to sweat, debris, and environmental pollutants. But if you regularly wash your face with a nonoily and non-comedogenic cleanser, using lukewarm water, it lowers the risk of getting skin breakouts. Also after a workout session or staying long outdoors, cleanse your face back home.
Keep yourself well hydrated: Keep sipping water all day long and keep your skin bright, glowy, and well hydrated, even in monsoons. A skin that is devoid of water triggers the body’s natural defense mechanism to secrete more sebum, which in return clogs the skin pores leading to acne. Also include raw fruits and vegetables in your meal as salads as they are made up of 90 percent water namely watermelon, melon, cucumber, oranges, etc.
Balanced diet: Glowy and supple skin demands good nutrition. The inclusion of raw fruits and vegetables is a great aid to healthy skin, being loaded with bioactive chemical agents possessing antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Keep a knowledge of your trigger foods behind acne and breakouts and refrain from their consumption. Most people have breakout triggers by eating foods high in sugars, milk and its products, and junk food.
Use a sunscreen: After cleansing your face, use a non-comedogenic, non-oily hydrating cream to make the skin look youthful and glowy. Over the layer of moisturizer, apply a layer of sunscreen with having SPF of at least 30. Be aware of using sunscreen even when the weather is cloudy as sun rays can penetrate even through clouds.
To keep skin youthful and glowing even in the damp weather of monsoon, follow an adequate skincare routine. Also, be mindful of what you eat and drink as your skin is the reflection of what you put inside.
