More bodies have been recovered after a flash flood swept away an entire hamlet in northern Vietnam, killing 30 people and leaving dozens missing as deaths from a typhoon and its aftermath climbed to 155 on Wednesday.
Vietnamese state broadcaster VTV said the torrent of water gushing down from a mountain in Lao Cai province Tuesday buried Lang Nu hamlet, home to 35 families, in mud and debris.
Only about a dozen people are known so far to have survived. Rescuers have recovered 30 bodies and are continuing the search for about 65 others.
A rescue operation is also underway in Cao Bang province after a bus carrying about 20 people was washed away on Monday.
Three days after the accident, rescue workers found the vehicle 800 meters from the scene of the landslide.
One body was recovered from the bus, bringing the death toll there to seven. One person was rescued while the rest remain missing.
Ly Ngoc Danh, whose son was on the bus, said his family is in shock.
“That day I said goodbye to my son when he left for university. But it was the last time I could speak with him,” he said.
The death toll from Typhoon Yagi and its aftermath has climbed to 155. Another 141 people are missing, and hundreds were injured, VTV said.
