‘MS Dhoni kicked..’: Ex-CSK star shares unheard tale of MSD’s anger after loss to RCB

New Delhi: The legendary MS Dhoni is known for his calm demeanour on the field and rarely flinches under pressure or loses his cool. The ‘Captain Cool’ is one of the most successful captains in the history of Indian cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL). While he rarely lets his emotions get the better of him, there have been a few instances of Dhoni losing his cool.

Former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) star Subramaniam Badrinath recently recalled a rare instance when Dhoni got angry after CSK’s shambolic defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL and kicked a water bottle out of the park in frustration. Badrinath played under Dhoni’s captaincy for six seasons at CSK.

He recalled how Dhoni was left furious after CSK lost a low-scoring game against RCB where they failed to chase down a low-key target of around 110 runs. The Men in Yellow lost wickets in a cluster, leading to a dismal loss. Unhappy with his team’s poor effort, Dhoni angrily kicked a water bottle. Badrinath also revealed that CSK players were trying to avoid eye contact with the former captain after witnessing his other side.

“In this match against RCB in Chennai, we were chasing 110 odd. We lost wickets in a hurry, and we ended up losing the match. It was one of those matches where we couldn’t get 110 against RCB in Chepauk,” Badrinath was quoted as saying in an interview by InsideSports.

“I got out to a lap shot against Anil Kumble. I got myself LBW. He was coming inside the dressing room (MS Dhoni) and I was standing right there and there was a small water bottle in front of me and MS just kicked it out of the park, and I was oh my god! We were all trying to avoid eye contact with him in that dressing room,” added the ex-CSK star.
