New Delhi: Young Afghanistan spinner Allah Ghazanfar continued his heroics in the 3rd ODI against Zimbabwe with a brilliant five-wicket haul at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Saturday. Ghazanfar, the latest spin sensation from Afghanistan, has been making waves in world cricket with his impressive displays for the national team in white-ball cricket.
Ghazanfar was once again the pick of the bowlers for the visitors as Afghanistan bundled out Zimbabwe for a paltry 127 in just 30.1 overs in the 3rd ODI. The 18-year-old spinner drew the first blood for Afghanistan in the game by dismissing Zimbabwe opener Joylord Gumbie cheaply on 3 before running through the hosts’ batting line-up.
After dismissing Gumbie, Ghazanfar trapped his opening partner Ben Curran lbw to send him packing on 12 before bagging the wickets of Zimbabwe wicket-keeper batter Tadiwanashe Marumani and Wellington Masakzada in successive deliveries. He completed his fifer with the dismissal of Newman Nyamhuri and finished with exceptional figures of 5/33 off his 10 overs.
Ghazanfar has been one of the stand-out performers with the ball for Afghanistan in the series so far with 9 wickets to his name in three matches. He picked up a 3-wicket haul in the 2nd ODI to power Afgahnsiatan to a dominant 232-run win against Zimbabwe and go 1-0 up in the three-match series after the series opener was washed out due to rain.
Ghazanfar was roped in by Mumbai Indians (MI) for Rs 4.80 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction earlier this year and will pair up with the likes of Mitchell Santner, Karn Sharma and Will Jacks in MI’s spin department next season. The expectations will be high from the youngster considering his recent heroics for Afghanistan.
Rashid Khan stars in 3rd ODI against Zimbabwe
While Ghazanfar was the pick of the bowlers in the 3rd ODI, senior spinner Rashid Khan also delivered an impressive spell for Afghanistan against Zimbabwe in Harare. The star spinner ripped through the hosts’ middle order by dismissing the likes of Sikandar Raza, Brian Bennett and Sen Williams, who top-scored for Zimbabwe with a brilliant knock of 60 runs.
Afghanistan are currently leading the three-match series 1-0 after their thumping victory in the 2nd ODI and will be looking to clinch the series 2-0 with a second successive victory in the 3rd ODI on Saturday.
