Mushfiqur Rahim earns big milestone for Bangladesh with tiny knock in Chepauk Test

New Delhi: While KL Rahul’s brilliant catch resulted in an abrupt ending to Mushfiqur Rahim’s innings, yet the Bangladesh batter went on to script a milestone on Saturday. During the second innings in the first Test match between India and Bangladesh at Chepauk, Rahim, who added just 13 runs to his overall tally, became the all-time highest run-scorer for the Bangla Tigers in international cricket.

Rahim surpassed former Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal to achieve the record and etch his name in the history books for the country. Mushfiqur, with his tiny knock, took his run tally to 15194 runs in international cricket while Tamim is placed second on the charts with 15192 runs to his name. Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah stand in third and fourth place, with 14696 and 10694 runs, respectively.

Rahim’s poor form in series opener

In 464 international matches for Bangladesh, Rahim has smashed 20 centuries and 82 half-centuries with an average of almost 35. The Bangladesh batter did not have the best of the time in the first Test match as he failed to show up in both the innings. While his innings was cut short by Ravichandran Ashwin after a superb catch pulled off by Rahul in the second innings on Saturday, the batter could not deliver in the first innings as well after being dismissed for just 8 runs by Jasprit Bumrah.

Meanwhile, India are on the cusp of clinching a thrilling win in the first Test as they just need 6 more wickets to pocket the match. The visitors need to score 300-plus runs to conquer the contest, which seems to be improbable.

Mushfiqur Rahim scripted history on Saturday for Bangladesh during the third day of the first Test match against India.  Cricket Sports News: Latest Cricket News, Cricket Live Score, Sports Breaking News from Sports Today
