Musk vs Biden: War of Words Erupt Over ‘Illegals’
A video of US President and former presidential nominee of the Democrats has surfaced where he has attacked Elon Musk for working in the US ‘illegally’, while being on student visa. Biden had said, “Elon Musk is the richest man in the world. He was supposed to be in a school when he came on a student visa. He was working. He was violating the law and he’s talking about all these illegals.”
Elon Musk Responds to Biden’s ‘Illegal’ Remark
Elon Musk, who has been publicly extending support to Biden’s ‘enemy’ and Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump, has called out Biden for his handling of immigration and alleging a surge in illegal entries under Vice President Kamala Harris’s watch. Responding to Biden’s video of him calling Musk out on his ‘illegal’ working in US, Musk has said, “So NOW he cares about illegals” with laughing emoticons.
Did Elon Musk ‘Illegally’ Work in US?
The Washington Post reports that Musk himself worked without proper authorization during his early years in the United States. Musk, originally from South Africa, arrived in the United States on a student visa. In 1995, he dropped out of Stanford University after just two days to pursue a business opportunity. He started his first company, Zip2, during this time. However, he did not have the required work permit to operate a business in the U.S. for nearly two years.
It was only around 1997 that Musk reportedly obtained the necessary legal work authorization. Under U.S. immigration law, foreign students are generally not allowed to leave their studies to start a business. This makes Musk’s early actions a violation of those regulations, putting him in a “legal grey area,” as he has described it. In a 2020 podcast, Musk reflected on this time, saying, “I was allowed to do work sort of supporting whatever,” but he also acknowledged that he was expected to be engaged in student-related activities.
