After World War II, from 1945, Navy Day was celebrated on December 1. In subsequent years until 1972, due to public enthusiasm, Navy Day was celebrated on December 15 and it was observed as Navy Week. In 1972, new reasons came to celebrate the Navy Day. In May 1972 at the Senior Naval Officer’s Conference, December 4 was decided as the date to celebrate Navy Day to commemorate the Indian Navy’s actions during the 1971 India-Pakistan War. From December 1 to December 7, Navy Week is observed.
