Washington: Jewish protesters swarmed the Congressional office building on Tuesday, a day before Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu‘s visit.
As per reports, some of the demonstrators tried to barge their way into a lawmaker’s office.
The office of Michigan Democratic Rep. Dan Kildee said that protesters “violently” were beating on office doors, shouted and were “attempting to force entry into the office.”
As hundreds of people sat in a circle in the dome and were sloganeering, police officials began ripping their signs asking the US to stop arming Israel in the war against Hamas.
In a post on X, The US Capitol Police in a post said that they would be arresting people illegally demonstrating inside the Cannon Rotunda.
“We are arresting a group that is illegally demonstrating inside the Cannon Rotunda. Demonstrations are not allowed inside the Congressional Buildings. We told the people, who legally entered, to stop or they would be arrested. They did not stop, so we are arresting them.”
According to the update given by the Capitol Police, almost 200 people were arrested for DC Code § 22–1307 – Crowding, Obstructing, or Incommoding – for demonstrating inside the Cannon House Office Building.
“Demonstrating inside the Congressional Buildings is against the law,” the post read further.
