NEET Exam Scam: Student Unions protest at Minister Kishan Reddy’s residence in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Student union leaders protested outside the residence of Union Minister G Kishan Reddy in Kacheguda, Hyderabad to demand cancellation of NEET Examination.

The protest led by Congress MLC Balmoori Venkat, saw student union leaders besieging his residence and chanting ‘Kishan Reddy, down down’, ‘Modi, down down’.

 

The police arrested Venkat along with the student union leaders and were taken to Nallakunta police station.

This comes in the background of alleged irregularities in the Medical entrance examination NEET-UG and an alleged ‘paper leak’ affecting 24 lakh students across the country. The results of NEET were declared on June 4 by the National testing Agency (NTA).

Centre operationalises law to curb irregularities in exams:

The Central government on Friday operationalised a strict law meant to curb malpractices and irregularities in competitive exams.

The Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024, which was passed by the Parliament in February, lays out a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine of Rs 1 crore for offenders.

Opposition protests:

Opposition parties on Friday held protests across the country slamming the Union government and demanding the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Congress MP from Rae Bareli, Rahul Gandhi vowed to raise the issue in Parliament in the next session beginning June 24.

Supreme Court refuses to defer NEET counselling:

On June 21, the Supreme Court refused to defer NEET exam counselling, which is scheduled to begin on June 6. The apex court ordered a retest for 1,563 students who were earlier awarded grace marks to make up for the loss of time at six centres.
